ALPTRAUM!
ALPTRAUM! (translated from German as "nightmare") is a comprehensive group exhibition of small to medium sized works on paper in a variety of disciplines by an international mix of nearly 100 artists. Co-curated by Marissa Long and Victoria Reis of Transformer, LA based artist Jay Stuckey, Berlin based curator Marcus Sendlinger, and Richard Priestley of London's Cell Project Space - ALPTRAUM! includes a selection of new works by artists in Transformer's FlatFile program in tandem with works selected by the exhibition collaborators.

Transformer is thrilled to be partnering with international galleries: the Cell Project Space, London, England; Deutscher Kuenstlerbund, Berlin, Germany; The Company, Los Angeles; and blank projects, Cape Town, South Africa in the presentation of ALPTRAUM! as it travels in 2011.

ALPTRAUM! originator Marcus Sendlinger writes: "ALPTRAUM! is an artist led project. It is a model which utilizes global communication between localized artist hubs and clusters to form an international grouping with the intent of opening a dialogue about this subject across borders and cultures in order to delve into the stuff and mind murk that is either collectively shared or completely random and unrelated, all within the syndrome of 'The Nightmare'. Each artist draws on their own personal experience in order to visualize those anxieties that take them beyond everyday dreams."

In an interpretation of the project by collaborator Richard Priestley, he states: "Like George Orwell's Room 101 in his predictive tale '1984', we all have our own version of what constitutes a nightmare, and for this reason, the project has been opened to a large number of artists whose many and varied personal nightmare versions, or visions, act to reflect this hugely variable human state of fears and phobias, pain and panic."

Marissa Long, Transformer's FlatFile Program Coordinator states: "When I began to focus on building and refreshing the FlatFile Program in September 2010 Transformer already had a fantastic roster of participating artists, many of whom have included new work via ALPTRAUM!. It has been as exciting to see new works from then current FlatFile artists, as it is to be introduced to all of the newly participating artists. The program boasts an eclectic mix of styles and media from emerging artists based locally and nationally. Transformer's FlatFiles are a unique resource in DC for people to discover a sizable number of inspiring and accessible artworks and artists all in one place, and for those with a modest budget to purchase and live with artwork they love without breaking the bank."

Victoria Reis, Transformer's co-Founder, Executive & Artistic Director adds: "Transformer is so pleased to have the incredible opportunity with ALPTRAUM! to highlight the work of DC artists in tandem with their peers internationally. We are excited to be furthering our mission to create as broad an audience as possible for emerging artists & emergent expression by sharing the work of artists from abroad with DC audiences, and look forward to traveling ALPTRAUM! internationally in 2011 to share the work of DC based artists and other participating FlatFile Program artists with audiences abroad."

RON ARTIST MVP (Malleability v. Preservation)
September 24, 2010 - October 23, 2010

Noble & Superior Projects

1418 W. Superior Chicago IL

Noble & Superior Projects is pleased to announce its upcoming exhibition RON ARTIST: MVP (Malleability vs. Preservation),
opening Friday, September 24th.

Previous to the opening of the gallery exhibition, Noble & Superior Projects will be hosting a legendary basketball tournament: Two games played by opposing teams of five as PAINTING vs PHOTOGRAPHY and FILM vs VIDEO. Each team has been carefully curated and selected based on the artists' work and commitment to their medium. The exhibition in general is a satire, poking fun at the medium-specific wars that have waged in galleries, museums and critical writing for the past 100 years. We plan to settle the argument once and for all, on the court. The game will be followed by a ceremonial exhibition at Noble & Superior Projects with the losing team in each game showing their work upside down.
Body/Image
August 11 - 28, 2010

Gallery 31, Corcoran College of Art & Design

"Body/Image features work from Anne Austin Pearce, Gray Lyons, April Behnke, and Talia Greene. These four women see the body from different points of view, creating art that offers psychological and emotional responses. Each, while making art from different states of mind, delves into the image of the human body interpreting everything from its movement, to its function, and to its points of pleasure and sensuality."
